Bariatric Surgery Texas Medicaid
Does anyone know of a medical center that accept Medicaid and perform bariatric surgery?
I'm in Evercare Texas through SSI and want to have bariatric surgery, but can not seem to find a doctor who will take me with Medicaid. Does anyone know of a facility? I will travel anywhere in Texas …
The problem with Medicaid is that it pays almost nothing to the doctors. Surgeons have full responsibility for dealing with a patient fairly high risk, but very little reimbursement. Bariatric surgery is a long term relationship – the guys I know who do tend to insist on a six months of preparation before going to operate, and if you smoke or do not comply with medications or other instructions, surgery is off. While it may seem an easy solution, surgery must be combined with lifestyle changes permanent for you to lose weight and keep it off. Your diet should change radically, and you should exercise daily for the rest of his life. You might try contacting a teaching hospital to see if they have a bariatric clinic you may be eligible. Good luck.
I was having the same problem so I called and a Dr Martin in Houston no longer accepts Evercare as of July 15 but his office refered me a to a Dr Yu in Houston that will take Evercare his web site http://www.tlcsurgery.com/index.php I have not called yet as I have just learned about this on July 27 2010, good luck and stay in touch.
