The band that is placed on the stomach through gastric banding can be adjusted through a small access port that is placed under the skin subcutaneously i.e. below the skin. The restriction that is placed on the stomach is increased over a period of time till the patient feels that they have reached a sweet spot where they can obtain optimal weight loss through minimal fluid. However, you must remember that the time frame for this cannot be predicted and this can vary from patient to patient depending on several factors. The initial weight loss after the use of gastric banding is reported to be slower than the weight loss that takes place at a later stage. The patient must follow the do’s and dont’s given by the doctor very carefully or he can end up gaining weight.
Gastric banding has certain drawbacks and before you undergo the procedure you must make sure that you are fully aware of this and are willing to take the risk.
